little brother’ relationship with Elvis Andrus

“I don’t know,” Beltre said. “I enjoy his company. Yes, he’s a little annoying sometimes. He keeps me young.

“I like to play hard. I like to play the game right, but at the same time I like to have fun. I like to enjoy what I do. It makes it easier for you when you enjoy what you do. And he’s that type of guy that he’s always fooling around, pulling pranks on teammates, trying to annoy me at times. But cheap throwback jerseys
it’s a big brother little brother relationship that we have. I love the kid. He’s a really good kid and a really good player. We try to do the best we can to entertain people and at the same time do our job and bring a championship to Texas.”

We’re feeling really good about our team this year. Hopefully we get out of spring training healthy enough to go out and compete. I think we have what it takes to win a championship. Hopefully we can get it done this year.

Who was your mentor/idol early on in your career?

I observed a lot of guys and idolized a lot of guys. The guy that I kind of fell in love watching the way he played the game was Ken Caminiti. But once I got to the big leagues, I had guys who took me under their wing and showed me to how be professional, how to act and how to make sure that I’m prepared to play the game every day. Those guys were , Jose Vizcaino and Devon White. Those guys really took care of me, and it’s the way I try to take care of the young guys now.

What were your thoughts when first you first made it up to the MLB?

My feelings were trying to find a way to stay in the big leagues. There was a lot of competition and there was a job opening for me to have if I performed well. And obviously, you don’t get a chance every day. My main focus was to make sure that I do everything in my power to be ready mentally and physically and show the organization at that time that I wanted that job and I wanted to stay in the big leagues and be part of a championship team.
